VFILES: Who are you?
Jungle Pussy: Shayna, just playin’ you know it’s Jungle Pussy.
VF: Where are you from?
JP: Born and raised in Brooklyn my whole entire life. I come from a very West-Indian household. My mother is Trinidadian my father is Jamaican.
VF: How did the name Jungle Pussy come about?
JP: I put it out there when twitter got poppin’. I was like “I need a twitter name, lemme put Jungle Pussy.” I always had animal print clothing and bed sheets and mugs and plates. I was always obsessed with animal prints so I felt like a little jungle pussy cat.
VF: Where does all this girl power come from?
JP: I’ve always been a very expressive girl. I’ve always said whatever I wanted and my mother was a very strong woman. Making her own money, doing her own thing, looking fly, buying all these labels. And then I’m like “Wow how’d she do that?” And she put us [kids] in poppin’ stuff too. It was always so amazing to me and I’m like “I gotta be like that, I gotta hold myself down, I don’t need these guys. These guys need me.”
VF: Tell us about your video “Cream Team.”
JP: It’s all about me and all my bitches making money. Me just being around strong females. I have stripper friends, I have friends that are still in school, I have friends that have graduated and worked in corporate, I have friends that are bartenders, but they’re all strong women making their own money. Yeah we’ve had boyfriends but at the end of the day we’re doing our thing. “Cream Team” is about just staying true to you. Staying true to yourself and holding down your girls that you grew up with.
